Glasgow UNESCO City of Music

10 Sep

This weekend sees the official launch of Glasgow UNESCO City of Music and there is loads going on to celebrate! I’m quite tempted to dust off my drumsticks and head over to the Big Bash outside the concert hall on Saturday which will be an opportunity for Glasgow to make a big noise (as if we’d have any problems doing that) by joining together to create a massive drum ensemble.

Other than that there is plenty of things to try out and like any typical weekend in Glasgow, there’s plenty of gigs to choose from. Some of the highlights are The Duke + The King at King Tuts, Roscoe’s (The Colts) solo album launch at the ever fantastic Free Candy Sessions at the Liquid Ship and former Elba ‘SessionistPearl and The Puppets, support The Zutons at Irn Bru’s event on Glasgow Green.

For all the weekend’s events the full brochure can be viewed here

Just an update on the goings on at Elba Studios. Daniel Wylie is in the studio recording today working on his forthcoming album which is sounding great. Norman Blake is also making his way to the West End to help out! An exciting day in prospect!

We are also busy planning our first Elba Sessions live shows. Mark October 8th in your diary and keep your eyes peeled for more info in the very near future!!

Thirty Pounds Of Bone…

6 Sep

I’m very excited about the new EP from the fantastic Thirty Pounds of Bone. It’s a collection of sea shanties and is out on a limited run through Woodland Recordings now. You can hear a couple of tracks on his myspace page and if you happen to be around Berlin or Hamburg this week, he is playing a couple of shows with the equally fab The Great Park.

There is an ever reliable review from Is This Music? here…

Hopefully we’ll be seeing Thirty Pounds Of Bone up north sometime soon!
